LadyGaga had a meeting with the performing artist Lady Starlight during this time in 2007; following her performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records, an imprint owned by Interscope Records. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her internship at Famous Music Publishing. This business was later purchased and rebranded Sony/ATV Music Publishing. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The first album by Gaga, "The Fame", was released in 2008, with very little interest from the radio. Gaga then toured Europe and performed in gay clubs in the US to promote The Fame album. Gaga made her debut on the scene in 2009 with her hit single "Just dance". Gaga was suffering due to a ruptured labral in her right leg that she had been secretly nursing for several weeks to ensure she was able to continue the tour. She was left unable to walk following a performance in Toronto and was in extreme pain. The tour was cut short.
